Today we're having auditions for The Studio at Shuffles. For those of you who don't know, The Studio at Shuffles is a Pre-Professional Musical Theater Company for actors ages 13-18. Training for The Studio is lead by Broadway and theater professionals in musical theater performance, scene study and theater dance. Studio members will perform throughout the year with a showcase in January. Actors are chosen by audition only.
Since Auditions are today, we've provided a few Audition Tips:
Choose a song that you love and can tell a story with!
You will have 4 monologue choices, make sure the one you choose is memorized and performance ready! (They will be short- no more than 30 seconds to 1 minute.)
Pay attention, every experience is a learning opportunity!

As for what it means to be in Studio, we teach from the standpoint of working together as an ensemble. Creativity is collaborative. Aside from from intensive choreography and music work we incorporate a great deal of acting technique into each session. You will have to think like actors- understanding who you are, why you are in each specific moment, what you are saying and singing and how your work as individuals stimulates everything you do together as a whole.
We require you to research every piece you are given. We also require you to become aware of the history of the art form. You will write and perform your own monologue about your favorite actor, writer, director, composer, and these pieces will be incorporated into our semester musical review. We are trying to prepare you to be well rounded performers who understand how the process works so that when you are preparing to go to college you are best that you can be.
As intense as this sounds, it is so much fun! We do a showcase for family and friends in February, and then we start working hard on the spring show. Classes are every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7:30. The commitment is real- each student is only allowed to miss two classes each semester. We work as an ensemble and when people miss that effects the work of the their fellow Studio members.

Please prepare 16-32 bars and bring sheet music. There will be a dance combination in jazz shoes. Sides will be provided for a monologue. The Studio is for actors ages 13-18.
