Senior Spotlight: KK Pohly

Current Favorite Song: Life Is A Way Highway by Rascal Flatts

Favorite Dance Scene: “Get’cha Head In The Game” from High School Musical

KK Pohly is graduating from The Dalton School this spring, and will be attending Yale University as an Environmental Studies major!  She also hopes to do some choreographic work with student club Yale Dramat, as well as join a dance group on campus.  Before she heads off to college, KK is planning a memorable summer for herself, including backpacking in Maine, traveling to multiple cities and countries in Europe with friends, and working on obtaining her bartending license!

KK has been a SHUFFLES student for 10 years!  When thinking back on her time with SHUFFLES, KK said her favorite performance was when she played both loyal dog Nana and right hand pirate Smee in Peter PANtomime!  She really enjoyed the chance to narrate the show.  SHUFFLES also taught KK the importance of hard work, saying it “means everything in the performing world!”  Her favorite memory was when she spent a whole weekend at the Manhattan School of Music with Studio teacher Enrique Brown and SHUFFLES 2020 senior Anthony Savino to learn “Who’s Got the Pain” from Damn Yankees for the Studio Showcase.  She loved how much fun the challenging choreography was, and learning it with a friend was even better!

When she leaves for Yale, KK says she will miss all of her amazing SHUFFLES friends, and “of course, my amazing teachers and mentors: Shelby, Cyndi, Gail, Kat, Enrique, and more!”  She says she will also miss “the seemingly never-ending list of things to do in Manhattan.”  She loves walking around the city because it “provides so many fun adventures!”

While not at SHUFFLES, KK loves to write, and is currently working on her own murder mystery novel!  She also spends a lot of time at her school as a member of the acapella group, a member on the Model UN team, and as Editor-in-Chief for her school’s newspaper, The Daltonian.  Though she’s not entirely sure where her career will take her, she’s very passionate about journalism and hopes to work in this field!  KK is also big into the outdoors, and enjoys backpacking, hiking, skiing, and surfing.  Finally, her biggest inspiration is her sister, Samantha.

Congratulations, KK!  We can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!
